Here is my guide to the top places to eat in Honolulu, Hawaii. Keep reading if you’re looking to skip the tourist traps and go for the best local and fresh eats.

Helena’s

If you’re looking to eat authentic local Hawaiian food, Helena’s is an absolute must-have. The family-owned restaurant first opened in 1946 and has been serving locals and tourists ever since. Their menu has a bunch of set options or you can make your own using the Ala Carte Menu.

Fresh Catch

If you love poke, Fresh Catch is another must-visit. If you love seafood, what better place to have seafood than Hawaii? We ordered the Ahi Katsu and two 1/2 pound containers of poke: salmon shoyu and spicy ahi.

Giovanni’s Shrimp

While I wasn’t able to make it out to the shrimp truck, I did get a plate of the famous shrimp scampi from Giovanni’s location on the 2nd floor of HMart. This is another family-owned and operated business and they have three locations on the island. It was a bit salty for my taste but it is very yummy and as garlicky as advertised.
